I hold my breathe because I know he’ll steal it anyway.
He just has to look at me that way he does;
That way that makes me know
everything is wrong in the world,
but everything right is here.
It’s the look that tells me
there isn’t anywhere else he’d rather be;
It’s the one that reminds me
that there are girls who are prettier,
girls who are smarter, and girls who
will always be better,
but he’s here with me.
Once he blinks, I can finally exhale.

But weeks, months, and years, and successes, and failures, and weddings, and babies, and jobs, and pink slips, and lacy slip dresses, and lazy Sundays, and late bills, and roses, and broken plates fill that moment

and it’s so heavy, I can’t breathe;
and so light I can’t help but smile.
